Hands-on Inspiration...

I love workshops. I love to facilitate them and I love to participate as well. Nothing beats the chance to try something hands-on and meet other people who love doing the same. It's like going back to school, but everyone wants to be there! (imagine!)

On Saturday I had the greatest pleasure of participating in a workshop at Heide with sculptor/artist Emily Floyd who is currently exhibiting in their main gallery. First up, Emily took us for a tour of the exhibition, discussing technique and answering questions as we went. It was truly facinating and wonderful to get an insight into the creative and technical processes of such a successful artist.

I hadn't had the chance to see the exhibition before the workshop, so it was a treat to see it for the first time in the presence of the creator. And I loved it.

I would highly recommend that you take a trip to Heide by the 13th of July, when the exhibition finishes. I love her work with type and also the extraordinary scale and workmanship of her large and very colourful sculpture. It was an exhibition where hands had to be restrained from reaching out to touch surfaces, pick things up and move them around.

After the tour, we returned to the Heide studio where we worked (played) using acrylic paints and inks under the guidance and encouragement of Emily and Julia (from Heide).

I had a lovely time. As I said, nothing beats the chance to spend a few hours playing with art materials and getting creative. Art therapy in action.

Thanks Emily and Julia, it was a great day.
